Librarian Wanted at Norrtälje Municipality
At Norrtälje Municipality, we take pride in being part of the democratic foundation of society and in being a vital part of our residents' everyday lives. With our broad operations and expertise, we share a common drive – we want to help people and opportunities to grow. We are proud of each other and how we enrich the lives of our residents together.
Do you want to work to promote reading in a school environment – and help strengthen students' chances of succeeding in their education? Norrtälje Municipality is now looking for another dedicated school librarian who wants to work on a mobile basis in our schools. The mission is to increase equity, strengthen the role of school libraries in education, and spark a love of reading among children and youth.
You will be part of the Unit for Support and Development – a cross-professional team that works closely with schools, focusing on promoting their work with learning, student health, and safety.
The Mission
Reading is a fundamental prerequisite for learning. Therefore, we in Norrtälje Municipality are investing in developing our school library services and ensuring that all students have access to inspiring and age-appropriate literature that enhances their learning and ignites their passion for reading.
As a mobile school librarian, you will work in close collaboration with schools, the Unit for Support and Development, and the Department of Education. The mission is planned jointly based on current needs, and you will move between schools in the municipality to strengthen the reading promotion work.
You will inspire, guide, and collaborate with both students and staff to integrate reading into teaching and create accessible, vibrant library environments.
Examples of Responsibilities:
- Conduct book talks and literature discussions with students
- Present new literature and methods to school staff
- Support schools in developing their libraries and reading promotion practices
- Purchase current and target group-adapted literature
- Contribute inspiration and materials that strengthen the school's reading culture
- Collaborate with school leaders, educators, and other support resources in the municipality
What You Need to Bring
- Degree in Library and Information Science
- Very good knowledge of children's and youth literature
- Ability to inspire both students and educators
- A pedagogical and relationship-building approach
- Good digital competence
- Driver's license (required, as our schools are spread throughout the municipality)
It is an advantage if you have previous experience in school library work or other reading promotion assignments in a school environment.
We Are Looking for Someone Who:
- Is passionate about helping young people discover the joy of reading
- Has an easy time building trusting relationships
- Is self-driven, flexible, and unpretentious
- Has a communicative and solution-focused approach
- Wants to work long-term with development, together with others
We place great emphasis on personal suitability.
We are looking for someone who has the competence to contribute to our operations regardless of gender, gender identity or expression, age, ethnic background, religion or belief, sexual orientation, or disability.

You will plan your work in consultation with your immediate supervisor and in collaboration with our other mobile librarian.
